ZACH'S EXPERIENCE IN THE RCI BANK DEPARTMENT AT RCI FINANCIAL SERVICES

Hi I’m Zach, an Economics student at the University of Exeter. For my placement year I have selected to work for RCI Bank, as not only is it a logical step with my current degree programme, but it is an area of interest I’ve wanted to experience for a while.

I have been able to showcase my analytical and mathematical skill set, whilst further developing and expanding other key skills needed to work within this business.

I chose RCI Bank as it was a perfect introduction to the start of my banking career. The fact that RCI Bank was considered a start-up and challenges the ever changing markets is exciting. It has given me the opportunity and exposure to banking that would be hard to find elsewhere.

Being part of a smaller team has resulted in greater responsibility and involvement within all aspects of the bank, including: operations, marketing, compliance and legal. I’ve also been tasked with analysing and presenting data at a high level to the CEO and CFO, amongst many other things.

A day in the life of a Bank intern is filled with many different responsibilities, along with unique and sometimes challenging tasks.

The combination of the above has fuelled my thirst for knowledge and increased my interest in the banking sector and new challenges.

I would recommend RCI BANK to any placement student interested in the finance and banking sector wanting to align their academic achievements with the roles on offer. Everyone here is very supportive and the working environment makes me strive to achieve more.

For me, this placement is just what I needed to gain a grounded understanding of this new profession.  Whilst I believe I had a good foundation, my skill set has been developed further with learning and development, building a plethora of skills that are needed to succeed within the banking sector.
